Here are a few tips that should help you.

Think about the long run

You want to plan ahead when you are buying a vehicle as a student. For starters, you don't want to get locked into a loan that will take 5, 6 or even 7 years to pay off. You don't want to have graduated and still have multiple years left on your loan because once you head out from school, chances are there will be more expenses to consider including housing or a move.  Moreover, you may want to start a family after you have graduated and you will need a spacious vehicle to do so. That 2-door coupe may look great today, but you don't want to need an SUV in four years and still have a long term left on your current vehicle.

Don’t buy just any vehicle

This brings us to our second point. Try to find a vehicle that will meet your lifestyle and budget needs for the next five years. That means that if you are planning on keeping the vehicle you are going to buy for five years and you plan on driving 10,000 to 15,000 km every year, know that that will add a significant portion of kilometres to your vehicle overtime. That means that a vehicle with over 200,000 kilometres might not be the best option. This is just an example, but we are trying to say is that once you have figured out your budget, don't jump on the first vehicle that fits that budget.

Think about maintenance costs

Speaking of budget, you have to plan for all of the other costs associated with owning a vehicle. These include fuel, tires, but also maintenance. Some cars are known for a low cost of ownership while others are known for being more expensive. Two cars may cost the same price, but one may cost twice as much to maintain. You can research this online but we can tell you that cars from Japan or Korea tend to be more affordable to maintain.

Don’t forget to check with your insurance company

Speaking of cost of ownership, you may want to check with your insurance company regarding the vehicle you are about to buy. Students tend to pay more in terms of insurance because they are younger and when you are young, the cost of insurance can vary greatly from one vehicle to the next.

We have a full range of quality pre-owned vehicles that we know will surpass your expectations. These vehicles are reliable, they will fit your budget, and we promise they won't cost very much to maintain.
